Doorstep has a free tier and one way to pay: once. These terms are short because the service is simple.
It finds local employers, drafts a letter to each one, and shows them to you. You read each letter, change it if you want, and approve it one at a time. Nothing is ever sent that you have not read and approved, and there is no bulk send. An approved letter is sent for you from our address, under your name, with your own email address for replies. Doorstep never has access to your inbox.
You must be 16 or over — the age you can leave school in England. If you're 16 or 17, everything free is yours to use exactly as it is for anyone else: finding out how many places near you might need people, and the CV builder. Seeing the places, having letters written and sending them is the paid part, for everyone.
Paying if you're under 18. To pay, you need a parent or guardian's permission first. If you're under 18 and paid without a parent or guardian's OK, they can ask us to refund it. Reply to the receipt or email hello@doorstepjobs.co.uk.
Some work has an age limit. Some jobs, like serving alcohol, usually need you to be 18. Whether you can do a job is the law's and the employer's call, not ours: Doorstep doesn't ask your age and won't stop you writing to anyone. Kitchen, café and shop work are great first jobs.
Our ads are aimed at adults. That doesn't change who can use Doorstep.
We can't promise you a job, an interview, a reply, or that any employer we find is hiring. Nobody could. Employer details come from public data that may be out of date — a business may have closed, changed hands, or never have wanted applications.
The letters are drafted by software. Read every one before you send it. If something in a letter is wrong about you, that's yours to catch — which is exactly why nothing goes out until you have read that letter and approved it.
The free tier lets you run one search a week, per person, and see how many places near you might need people. Seeing those places, having letters written for them and sending them (or downloading them to hand in) is the paid part, and there is one way to pay for it: once. Payment is taken by Stripe; we never see or store your card details. Prices include VAT where it applies.
One payment of £12.50. It never renews and there is nothing to cancel later. It gives you access to Doorstep for as long as Doorstep runs. Access means: as many rounds as you like, sending the letters you approve from Doorstep (within the limits under "How we keep it fair" below, which apply to everyone), a follow-up written for you when an employer goes quiet (you read it and choose whether to send it — nothing is sent without you), and new-openings alerts.
If Doorstep ever closes, we will give at least 30 days' notice — by email to the address you paid with, and on this site — before it does.
Your 14 days. The law gives you 14 days from the day you buy to cancel a service bought online. That is your right.
Starting straight away. Doorstep starts working the moment you pay. So when you press a pay button — in the app, on the pricing page or on Stripe's payment page, each of which says this next to the button — you're asking us to start straight away, inside those 14 days, and accepting what that means for a refund.
What that means. Sending letters is what counts as using Doorstep here — building rounds and reading letters doesn't. Nor do the 2 letters the free tier lets you send before you pay. If you cancel within the 14 days and before you've sent any letters, we'll refund the whole payment. If you've sent letters by then, you've used part of what you paid for: we keep an amount in proportion to what you've had up to the day you tell us, and refund the rest. After the 14 days we don't give refunds, except where the law says we must or where someone under 18 paid without a parent or guardian's OK (see Who can use Doorstep). To cancel within the 14 days, reply to your receipt or email hello@doorstepjobs.co.uk.
Your other rights. None of this takes away your rights under consumer law. If Doorstep doesn't do what we've said it does, tell us and we'll put it right, or give you money back where the law says so.
A price change never touches a payment you have already made.
There are daily limits on searches and letters. If the service is busy you may be asked to come back tomorrow. We may change or withdraw the service at any time. What the free tier and paying once include is on the pricing page, and you'll be told plainly before you're asked for anything.
You can opt out at any time, permanently, for every user. See the privacy notice for where your details came from and why we hold them.
Doorstep is provided as is. To the extent the law allows, Doorstep, operated by Louis Scott as a sole trader, isn't liable for losses arising from using it — including anything an employer does or doesn't do in response to a letter. Nothing here limits liability for death, personal injury caused by negligence, or fraud.
Nothing in these terms affects your statutory rights as a consumer.
These terms are governed by the law of England and Wales, and its courts have jurisdiction.
Doorstep exists to get people in front of employers who never advertise — not to bury those employers. So the software enforces a few rules, on everyone, and they are not negotiable:
The numbers above are the ones the software is configured with at the date below; if we change them, this page changes with them.
hello@doorstepjobs.co.uk. A person reads it.
